‘Golden t-shirts’ is the new single from Canadian-Haitian artist Laurie Torres. It’s a beautiful track filled with jazz inflections and wrapped up in a tender lo-fi package. It stays downtempo and restrained throughout, with exploratory textures and endlessly decaying cymbals swirling in the background as Torres’ delicate piano improvisations guide us toward the track’s delicate fade. “The theme for this track came out of an improvisation,” she explains. “I ended up taking a few minutes to scribble the full progression so that I could play it comfortably. Singing it while playing helped me focus, and I quite enjoyed the intimate and unpolished result from that.” Laurie Torres’ debut album, Après Coup, is out on February 21st, 2025 via Tonal Union. -Dan Peeke
